System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM) R2 and Hyper-V R2 8:15 - 9:45 Bob Krone, Benchmark Learning
Session Level: 200–Intermediate
Audience: TBD
In this presentation you will see demonstrations of new and improved features in System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM) R2, Hyper-V R2 and highly-available Hyper-V R2 guests. SCVMM R2 is a tool used to manage one or more Microsoft Hyper-V [R2] servers, Virtual Server 2005 servers and their guest operating systems, as well as VMWare’s ESX/ESX-I [virtual] server and its guest operating systems. SCVMM R2 gives you the ability to manage standalone and highly available (clustered) guest operating systems, migrate physical servers to virtual servers (P to V), manage check-out of virtual OSs and control supporting resources such as .ISO images, OS Templates and scripts. Hyper-V R2 has a number of major improvements including ‘Live Migration’, the ability to migrate a [highly available] virtual from one node to another with minimal loss of packets and faster virtual disks.

Virteva’s Jarvis Davis will share his experiences gained as a ConfigMgr Architect at multiple clients. The session will use real-world experiences, pain points and resolutions to highlight the best practices for implementing an automated deployment system with ConfigMgr 2007. We will touch on the process for building and deploying your "gold" image including OS installation, driver management, updates management, managing user state and dynamic application deployment. We will also cover both XP and Windows 7 deployment utilizing ConfigMgr along with the integration with MDT 2010 and USMT. There will be live demos including a complete Windows 7 deployment during the session.
Stop the Noise! How to Tune a Management Pack for YOUR Environment
1:45 - 3:00 Lu Patrick, Benchmark Learning
Session Level: 200–Intermediate
Audience: Someone who is planning to implement or has recently implemented System Center Operations Manager 2007 and will be responsible for managing the environment would benefit from this session.
As Microsoft System Center Operations Manager 2007 is being implemented, you can be overwhelmed with the volume of alerts. With hundreds — or even thousands — of alerts being generated within a short amount of time, knowing where to start can be daunting. Management packs are designed to reflect the vendor’s perspective on what you should be monitoring — whether it is pertinent to your infrastructure or not! This session will present a practical approach to adjusting management packs to provide you with the right information for your environment.
SCCM with PowerShell - Get More Done in Less Time
3:15 - 4:30 Matthew Teegarden, Carlson Companies
Session Level: 300–Advanced
Audience: This session is intended for SCCM Administrators who can benefit from PowerShell automation.
This session will focus on using PowerShell with SCCM 2007 to automate client maintenance / health and overall SCCM server maintenance. We will start with a few PowerShell basics and then move quickly into some PowerShell modules found on the Internet and how to use them. From there, we will create our own scripts and save them for future use in modules or the PowerShell profile. Finally, we will go through Q and A and provide demonstrations for some of your questions.
