Course Overview
  There are two major myths about conflict: that it always involves anger and that it's always negative. Conflict can actually be a positive tool for growth if you know how to manage it properly. This one-day workshop will teach participants just how to do that.

Objectives
  This one-day workshop will teach participants:
  • How their attitudes and actions impact others
  • New and effective techniques for dealing with difficult people
  • Coping strategies for dealing with difficult people and difficult situations
  • How to identify times when they have the right to walk away from a difficult situation
  • Techniques for managing and dealing with anger.

Audience
  This course is developed for anyone who would like to improve team communication and avoid issues caused by conflict.

  Lesson 1: Introduction and Course Overview
  • This Lesson introduces participants to the workshop, details the workshop schedule, and provides participants an opportunity to identify their personal learning objectives.
Lesson 2: Reciprocal Relationships
  • This Lesson will examine the idea that, in a relationship with another person, expectations are likely to be a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Lesson 3: Dealing with Change
  • During this Lesson, participants will examine change through a panel discussion and small group work.
Lesson 4: The Agreement Frame
  • Anthony Robbins, and many other communicators, suggests we become skillful at using what he calls The Agreement Frame. This session will explore this idea and practice applying it.
Lesson 5: The Ten Commandments of Change
  • Sam Deep and Lyle Sussman suggest there are 10 commandments associated with change. Students will look at these commandments and see how they can be applied.
Lesson 6: Preventing Problems
  • There are several key ways to prevent problems from occurring. These methods will be examined in a lecture and in small group work.
Lesson 7: Dealing with Problems
  • Students will work in small groups to explore eight ways of dealing with problems.
Lesson 8: Causes of Difficult Behavior
  • This Lesson will look at the four fears that everyone has and how we can cope with them.
Lesson 9: The Five-Step Process
  • During this Lesson, students will learn a five-step process that can help resolve conflict.
Lesson 10: Changing Yourself
  • In this Lesson, students will take a deeper look at how negative attitudes can cause negative interactions, and what strategies can be used to turn those attitudes around.
Lesson 11: Why Don't People Do What They Are Supposed To?
  • There are a million possible answers to this question, but students will learn the 10 most common reasons.
Lesson 12: Managing Anger
  • This Lesson will share some techniques others have used to manage their anger. Participants will be encouraged to share their own experiences and techniques.
Lesson 13: De-Stress Options You Can Use Right Now!
  • To conclude the day, we will look at five techniques students can use to unwind. We will also share a list of coping thoughts.
Lesson 14: Workshop Wrap-Up
  • At the end of the day, students will have an opportunity to ask questions and fill out a personal action plan.
