Revised CCNP Curriculum and Exams

Cisco has redesigned the CCNP courses and exams to reflect the evolving job tasks of global network professionals. CCNP will now be three exams, ROUTE, SWITCH and TSHOOT. The revision focuses on the competencies that are needed to plan, implement and troubleshoot the routed and switched networks of today and is designed to be more predictive of job readiness. A valid CCNA certificate is a requirement to CCNP testing. Students with CCNA level skills will benefit the greatest from CCNP training.

Q: Should I take the Network+ or CCENT course?
A: Network+ is for someone who is newer to networking and seeking either vendor neutral certification/skills or someone who has long-term goals that include Microsoft Certification, such as the MCSE. Network+ can be an elective for some Microsoft exams.

CCENT is for someone who is newer to networking and will be working on Cisco routers and switches. (It is also appropriate for those working on HP or other brands, but Cisco has the majority of the market.) If you have a long-term goal of obtaining the CCNA or will be supporting Cisco products and services, it is best to complete this class as a starting point. This class will help you pass the ICND1 or CCENT, and set you up for even more success if your eventual goal is the CCNA or the ICND2.
