Security Education FAQs
Q:
Should I take the Network+ or CCENT course?
A:
Network+ is for someone who is newer to networking and seeking either vendor neutral certification/skills or someone who has long-term goals that include Microsoft Certification, such as the MCSE. Network+ can be an elective for some Microsoft exams.
CCENT is for someone who is newer to networking and will be working on Cisco routers and switches. (It is also appropriate for those working on HP or other brands, but Cisco has the majority of the market.) If you have a long-term goal of obtaining the CCNA or will be supporting Cisco products and services, it is best to complete this class as a starting point. This class will help you pass the ICND1 or CCENT, and set you up for even more success if your eventual goal is the CCNA or the ICND2.
Here are a few questions commonly asked about the course:
Q: Is there anyone who offers free security licenses?
A: Yes, there is a free trial license for the Core Impact tool. Also, Linux usually offers equivalent environments that are free of charge.
Q: How much content is on the course CD and what percent is actually used in class?
A: There are hundreds of papers and tools on the CDs, we only touch on a small percentage in class due to time constraints.
Q: Who developed the courseware CD?
A: The CD is compiled by the EC Council, but again there are hundreds of tools available from software vendors to individual ethical hackers.
Q: The book is EC Council approved, but what other resources are provided in class?
A: Practice test materials are also provided.
Q: Are there VMs to take home?
A: Yes, students are free to copy the VMs and take them with them.
